  • Tweets, Friend Requests, Likes... and Lawsuits

socialHave you ever had to deal with a patient making a "friend" request to you on your personal Facebook page? Is your receptionist (unbeknownst to you) tweeting every "LOL" patient encounter? Are you prepared for everyday social media scenarios that blur boundaries and can expose medical practices to unnecessary risk?

Like it or not, your patients and staff are engaging in social media. Even if you or your practice prefers to communicate beyond 140 characters, a savvy practice understands how social media overlaps with medicine.

Social Media Guidance for Physicians and Their Practices is available as a benefit to ISMIE policyholders. The resource provides practical information and guidance on developing a social media policy for your practice. It also provides a 101 course on real-world scenarios that are helpful for understanding social media.

  • Have you Considered Higher Limits for Cyber Liability Protection?

cyberType "healthcare data breach" into Google and your screen will fill with dozens of recent stories. A common theme is the significant fallout that follows the sloppy handling of passwords, lost laptops, or in the extreme case of this Mississippi health system, an employee engaged in illegal activity. Developing and following strong data protection policies will minimize the chances of a damaging breach, but no practice is immune.

With digital threats lurking behind every corner, peace of mind can be hard to come by. Fortunately, ISMIE provides our policyholders with free basic cyber liability coverage. However, we recognize the unique needs of our policyholders and many prefer higher limit coverage, which ISMIE offers for an additional fee.

Policyholders may increase their cyber liability protection at any time. Earlier this year we streamlined the process for obtaining those higher limits for individual physician policyholders and for groups with up to 10 physician affiliates. Learn more by accessing ISMIE's brochure and webpage.

To purchase higher limits, please contact the Underwriting Division via email or call 800-782-4767 ext. 3350. If you utilize an insurance broker, you may also wish to contact him or her.
