  • Cook, Madison and St. Clair Counties Tie for No. 6 Slot on ATRF’s 'Judicial Hellholes' List

judicial-hellholesIt's an annual holiday tradition – the release of the American Tort Reform Foundation's (ATRF) 'Judicial Hellholes' list singling out the most plaintiff-friendly civil court jurisdictions in the country.

Cook County made its return to the national ranking with this comment: "Chicago is the wrong place to defend a case." Perennial offender Madison County was labeled "the nation’s epicenter for asbestos lawsuits" and its "troublesome neighbor" St. Clair County was credited with its "fair share of litigation." McLean County made the ATRF's "watch list" in 2016.

No. 1 is just a little further down the road. The ATRF recognized the City of St. Louis, Mo. as a "magnet for product liability lawsuits and consumer class actions."
