  • ICJL Website Provides Essential Background For Judicial Candidates on the Ballot Nov. 8

"I voted 2016" pinNext Tuesday, many Illinois judges will face election or retention for a 10-year term on the circuit or appellate level. That’s a lot of time for the same judges to control the professional futures of Illinois’ dedicated physicians.

Fortunately, you do have a say in the process.

Before you vote, take a moment to check the Illinois Civil Justice League’s (ICJL) judicial candidate information at Illinois Judges.net. You’ll find every candidate’s positions, affiliations and records to make an informed choice to support legal fairness in our state.

ISMIE Mutual and the Illinois State Medical Society are founding members of the ICJL, a coalition of Illinois citizens, small and large businesses, associations, professional societies, not-for-profit organizations and local governments that have joined together to work for fairness in the Illinois civil justice system.

  • MACRA Final Rule Announced – We Offer Ways to Evaluate Your Status

MACRA word bubblesLast month, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) released the much-anticipated Final Rule for implementation of the Medicare Access and CHIP Reauthorization Act of 2015 (MACRA).

ISMIE’s partners at the Illinois State Medical Society (ISMS) worked to shape these important practice regulations and had a favorable impact on several aspects of the Final Rule. Still, substantial challenges remain. The new law is far from flawless!

Here’s an overview of what ISMS shared with CMS and how those suggestions were addressed.

MACRA implementation begins next year, and even though CMS is treating 2017 as a “transition year,” physicians and their practice teams will have to take specific actions to avoid future penalties.

If you’re still evaluating how MACRA will affect your practice, check  Top 3 Facts to Know About MACRA Implementation before you begin.

One more assist: ISMS staff members are available to present to your group or work with your individual practice to help you learn more about MACRA and what you need to do to get ready. For more information, please contact the ISMS Division of Health Policy Research and Advocacy at 800-782-4767 or by email at  hpresearch@isms.org.

  • ISMIE 40 Flashback: 2003 and 2005 – Illinois’ Fight for Legal Fairness Gets a BIG Assist from the White House

President Bush TalkingIt’s not every day that a U.S. President makes a whistle stop to fight for medical liability reform. ISMIE helped make it happen – twice.

President George W. Bush made the Land of Lincoln a priority in his aggressive legislative reform agenda after Illinois was designated a medical liability litigation “crisis state” by the American Medical Association.

He spoke first in Chicago in 2003 and then in 2005 in downstate Collinsville, where Illinois’ most plaintiff-friendly courtrooms are found.
