Keep in mind that physicians operate under a variety of business structures, so if you’re unsure about the licensing status of your practice, make a call to your practice attorney or other qualified expert this week.

  • They're At It Again...A Fine Kettle of Fish

cartoon of people fighting in a courtroomSometimes a case really hooks us.

This one has it all: alleged wanton icthyocide, undercover federal agents busting up fishing expeditions (yes, literal ones, not the legal kind) and a tutorial on the surprisingly high value of catfish caviar, though you’ll never see us try it.

But frankly, this federal lawsuit had us at hello. With a name like United States v. 1855.6 Pounds of American Paddlefish Meat and 982.34 Pounds of American Paddlefish Caviar, how could we not read on?

Filed last month in the Southern District of Indiana, Paddlefish is known as an in rem forfeiture case in which the government files a lawsuit against a thing and not a person for a specific porpoise, er, purpose.

Which actually means – because we’ve been stringing you along long enough – that the defendant in this case is a bunch of dead fish.

When there’s valuable property on the line, we usually see sharks circling nearby. But with this defendant sitting in a freezer south of Indianapolis, we suspect they might get skunked.
