  • July 19 Session Focuses on ‘Virtual Group’ Formation for Small Practices; July 31 Event Details How ERM Can Help Your Team

physican meetingISMIE policyholders and their staff members are invited to take part in two important July webinars to help practices of all sizes operate more smoothly and safely.

Expand Your Options Under MIPS: The What, Why and How of Virtual Groups outlines how solo practitioners and medical practices with 10 or fewer clinicians can succeed in the Merit-Based Incentive Payment Program ( MIPS). Hosted by our partners at the Illinois State Medical Society (ISMS) and open to ISMIE policyholders and their staff members at no charge, this session discusses virtual groups and how even the smallest practices can partner up to maximize reporting options and possibly increase payment incentives under MIPS for 2019. The webinar runs from noon-12:45 p.m. July 19. Register here.

Enterprise Risk Management and Your Practice: Strategies for Success offers a primer for physicians and staff in the Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) movement in health care. Created in the corporate sphere, ERM is a strategy that identifies, assesses and addresses all potential physical and operational risks to any commercial entity, and offers specific advantages for medical practices. You’ll learn to evaluate clinical risk and more when developing a successful ERM model for your team. The webinar runs between noon-1 p.m. July 31. Register here

  • Planning Retirement or a New Career Move? Don’t Make a Decision without Reviewing ISMIE’s ‘Leaving or Closing a Practice’ Risk Management Resource

phsycian thinkingIf you’re considering retirement or a new position as an employed, group practice or locum physician, it’s more than a career discussion. It’s a risk management issue too. As you consider your options, make some time to review one of ISMIE’s most popular risk management resources, Leaving or Closing a Practice.

You’ll find valuable guidance in patient outreach, safeguarding medical records and meeting all contractual obligations as you plan your transition – this resource also includes a helpful task list that addresses closing a practice from the American Academy of Family Physicians.

Also, if you’re considering transitioning into locum work, remember to ask your staffing agency who provides their medical liability coverage. Locum tenens insurance is just one of ISMIE’s custom coverage solutions helping physicians explore new practice environments.

  • They're At It Again...Hold the Lawsuit

Cartoon fighting courtroomMcDonald’s has filed a motion to dismiss a proposed class action lawsuit from two South Florida customers arguing that a Quarter Pounder with Cheese ordered without cheese should be cheaper than a Quarter Pounder with Cheese.

    Got that?

Plaintiffs argued in May that the fast food giant’s unwillingness to adjust the price for serving said sandwich without cheese amounts to “unjust enrichment” to the tune of 30-90 cents every time a customer says forget the fromage.

We forgot to point out one thing - the sandwich has been on the menu board for decades and literally has the word “cheese” in it.

In its motion to dismiss – the plaintiffs have until Friday to respond – McDonald’s put it this way: When a customer orders a “Quarter Pounder with cheese or a Double Quarter Pounder with cheese as displayed on the menu, but asks the restaurant to hold the cheese, the customer is customizing a standard menu item to meet a personal preference, in the same way a customer may omit pickles or onions.”

Uh oh, McDonald’s. We hear pickle and onion haters stirring from their lunch comas, digging for spare change.
