  • Getting Ready for MACRA? Tackle These Five Tips First

MACRA_TipsOn September 8, Medicare offered practice managers and their teams a little breathing room to implement the stringent requirements of the Medicare Access and CHIP Reauthorization Act of 2015, better known as MACRA

However, before you make a decision on your final implementation process, our colleagues at the Illinois State Medical Society (ISMS) have developed five essential tips to streamline your MACRA prep.

If your physicians are not ISMS members, keep in mind that the Society offers regular news updates and educational events on important administrative and regulatory matters critical to physicians and practice managers. To inquire about ISMS membership for the physicians in your practice, visit the ISMS website or call 800-782-4767 for more information.

  • Your Practice's Cyber Liability Coverage Just Got Better

Cyber_LiabilityA study late last year by Experiannoted that 91 percent of all health care organizations had reported at least one data breach over the previous two years. It projected that major computer hacks would make the headlines in 2016, but that "small breaches (would) cause the most damage."

A cyberattack can threaten your relationship with your patients, and cleanup is both stressful and expensive. Luckily for ISMIE policyholders, since 2011, we've provided cyber liability coverage (in partnership with Beazley Syndicate) that's evolved with the expanding scope of the threat. At a time when medical practices are spending heavily on technology, it's important that your cyber liability coverage fits the needs of your practice.

Check ISMIE's latest additions to your cyber liability coverage. If you have questions or a possible need for higher-limit cyber liability coverage, don't hesitate to contact the ISMIE Underwriting Division at 800-782-4767 or by email. If you utilize a broker, you may also wish to contact him or her.

  • Reminder: New Overtime Rules Go Into Effect December 1

In May, the U.S. Department of Labor (DOL) announced the extension of overtime pay eligibility to an additional 4 million U.S. workers, including 200,000 in Illinois. The new rules will go into effect in a little more than two months, and the DOL has predicted that health care workers will make up the bulk of those affected.

Make time to review the rules now to see how they might affect your practice.
